Employee Spotlight – Stacey Thousand

Meet the new face of CBU:

Stacey Thousand

Sr. Learning and Development Specialist

Organizational Development

How long have you worked for Colony Brands? 3 months.

What positions have you held throughout your career at Colony Brands? This is my first role here at Colony Brands.

What is the best part of your job? The ability to interact with so many different people and roles throughout the organization.  I love to hear the different opportunities, struggles and ways learners find they can apply the tools and learnings they get from our classes.  It is so refreshing when people share their experiences during class and help others learn.  In some ways, I feel I get paid to learn…. How awesome is that?!

What inspires you?  Making an impact on others.  Throughout my career/life, I have interacted with different “gamechangers” that said or did something that made me think of things differently, got me thinking outside of the box or really stretched my skills and abilities.  I would love to be a “gamechanger” for others.  To say something or challenge someone’s thinking in a way that makes them reflect, think of things a little differently or create “big potential team mindset” is the ultimate reward.

What are you most excited about for the future of CB? I was super excited in the last corporate update meeting to see all of the projects we are focused on to not only position us positively for the next 1-3 years, but creating an infrastructure for us to be more nimble and allows for long term sustainability and growth.

Are you married? Have a significant other? Yes, Mike and I will be married 15 years this coming September.

Kids? Grandkids? Yes, I have 5 unique, fun, challenging, and interesting kids that keep me on my toes daily:

Halayna: 21

Landon: 13

Lila: 11

Ronica: 10

Collins: 5

Hometown: Lancaster, WI

Where did you go to school? Southwest Wisconsin Technical College

Where do you currently live? Mineral Point, WI

Dare to tell us how old you are? 40 years young

What do you like to do with your free time? Spend time outdoors with family, read, go for walks, have coffee with friends, and work on small crafty projects in my house.

Favorite TV show: I don’t watch much TV, so favorite podcast:  Oprah’s Super Soul Conversations.

Last book you read: Gifts of Imperfection by Brene Brown…. My third time reading it, one of my favorites!

What piece of technology could you not live without? Phone, with my longer commute I live on audio books and podcasts.

What’s your go-to food &/or drink? Food- RX bars, drink- coffee or lemon water— nothing more refreshing.

What’s your biggest pet peeve?  When someone is unwilling to listen to all points of view…… I do admit I fall into this sometimes too.

What advice would you give your younger self? “Don’t be afraid to fail.  Some of the best learnings come from failure.”

Favorite social media: I don’t love social media but if I was forced to pick one it would be Instagram.

What is your dream vacation? A beach house, with lots of sand, books and family time.

Before working at Colony Brands, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?  Years ago I was one of 5 employees to start up a new remote facility.  There are so many things that we take for granted for how things just happen.  It was an awesome opportunity to see the build of a brand new operation and team.  Needing to wear a hard hat in an office environment, was not something I can not forget.

What drew you to Colony Brands originally? And how has Colony Brands changed since? I heard about the company from a past colleague, and once I started digging into the culture and values I knew there was something special here.  In my short time here, I can honestly say what we have here is very unique.  We don’t simply say we are customer and employee centric….. we live it.

If you could do another job for just one day, what would it be?  Talk show host…. The chance to ask questions and listen to other people’s stories would be awesome.

What are your three most overused words/phrases?

What is on your bucket list? I try not to do the bucket list thing when I can I do things that are important to me now.

What is your favorite sport? Running, whether it is cross country or Olympic running…  I am always amazed with what the human body can do.

Where is your favorite place to eat? Tequilla Point in Mineral Point…. If you are ever in the area, it is amazing!

What TV show do you binge watch?  I don’t currently watch TV….. but once I start on Ted Talks…. I can’t seem to stop. [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
